Pre-departure to Albania Visas Travelers should check visa requirements prior to departure. Citizens from the European Union, United States of America, and UNLP holders are exempted from visa requirements. International staff who plan to work in Albania for a period of over three months may wish to obtain an Albanian visa prior to their arrival in Albania, depending on their citizenship. They have to make arrangements and get their visas either at the Embassy of Albania in their country of residence or at the Embassy of Albania in the nearest country. At present vaccinations are not compulsory for travelers to Albania, but travelers may or may not want to be vaccinated depending on 1) how long they will stay in Albania; 2) what kind of job they will be doing in Albania, and in which areas they will be staying. Following are some notes for reference. Yellow Fever: Yellow Fever vaccination certificate may be required from travelers over 1 year of age coming from infected areas. Hepatitis B The World Health Organization in the past has recommended that staff residing in or frequently traveling to Albania, especially those who are likely to require medical treatment be vaccinated with hepatitis B vaccine. Regulations and requirements may be liable to change at short notice, and it is advisable to contact a personal doctor well in advance of the intended date of departure. A vaccination certificate for epidemic disease is required from travelers if arriving from infected or endemic areas. The metric system is used. The Government has signed the Vienna Convention on duty free allowance for UN international staff and Diplomatic Missions. There are no limitations to import free of customs duty, personal and household goods, including electrical appliances and other appropriate goods, such as private car, refrigerator, stove, radio, deep freezer, stereo set, video etc. Prohibited items: Firearms, Ammunition, Narcotics, Drugs and good jeopardizing the protection of public order and social security. Special export permits are required for precious metals, antique coins and scrolls, antiques, books and art works that are part of national culture and heritage. Upon the arrival of goods in Albania, documentation including a detailed listing of the contents of the boxes will need to be provided through the UNDP office to the customs officials who may inspect the shipment. Domestic pets may be brought to Albania. Veterinary certificates and vaccinator records need to be presented upon arrival in the country.
