The Strategic Value of GEF Cross-Cutting Capacity Development

April 8, 2015

Cross-cutting capacity development (CCCD) projects help countries meet and sustain global environmental outcomes by strengthening key capacities that address challenges, and remove barriers common to the MEAs that the GEF serves. The CCCD projects also respond directly to national capacity development obligations, and comprise an important and strategic set of activities for improved decision-making for the global environment. The publication sets out to demonstrate how the GEF-funded, UNDP-implemented, projects fill an important development need.

Throughout this publication, the successes and lessons learned from a global portfolio of CCCD projects are highlighted, and situated within the context of the UNDP’s Strategic Plan and broader efforts to support capacity development needs to meet sustainable development objectives. In particular, the publication outlines how CCCD projects can serve as strategic catalysts for strengthening and institutionalizing the sustainability of global environmental outcomes within the framework of national development priorities.
