Stakeholders meet to discuss low cost social housing in AlbaniaDec 11, 2015
Albanian architects and construction engineers came together to exchange views on low cost energy- efficiency measures that can be integrated to optimise the energy consumption in social buildings.
The meeting looked into lessons learned from several Energy Efficient building designs including those that were part of a competition organized by the National Housing Agency in cooperation with UNDP.Early 2015 a national competition was conducted with the aim of getting proposals for the technical design of the first Energy Efficient social House Award in Korca. The winning studio was awarded the prize during the event. A construction company will start the construction works in early 2016-making it the first and only Energy Efficient Social House Complex to be build in Albania.
UNDP is helping introduce new standards for social houses in the country becoming also a benchmark for private investments in the housing sector.
This event spurred further actions by the National Housing Agency which, amongst others, launched a nation-wide competition among students and young professionals to come up with innovative low cost and low energy social buildings.
This event was organized by UNDP in partnership with the National Housing Agency and academia from faculties of architecture in the framework of the UN Sustainable Energy for All Initiative.
