One hundred innovative ideas for self-employment presented in Berat today
One hundred innovative ideas for entrepreneurship were presented today in Berat to an audience of Roma and Egyptian youth and other job seekers in the region. The one hundred entrepreneurship ventures offer creative and nontraditional ways of self-employment.
The one hundred innovative ideas serve as a tool for encouraging self-employment among marginalized Roma and Egyptian youth and establish new small scale initiatives as per the labor market criteria and needs in Albania.
Focusing on Roma and Egyptian youth, this event follows the earlier “Future We Want “national consultations across the country where nearly 500 young people were consulted on how they want their future to look like. Among top priorities express by youth was employment.
Arben Laveri, a member of the Roma Community participating at the event amongst others said: “I found this event today very beneficial. It gave me excellent ideas how to start a new business taking into account the market needs”.
As young people lack the practical skills and experience to start a business, and sometimes confidence to engage in a business venture, these innovative ideas will help enhance their self-employment and entrepreneurship skills.
The event was organized by United Nations Development Programme as part of “Supporting Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptian Communities” project, funded by European Union and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth.
The project is implemented in the regions of Berat, Korca and Vlora .It contributes towards the promotion of social inclusion and empowerment of Roma and Egyptian communities through encouraging participatory planning for infrastructure development; strengthening capacities of Roma and Egyptian civil society organizations; promoting employability and entrepreneurship; assisting the implementation and monitoring of the National Decade Action Plan for Roma, as well as fostering respect for human rights and cultural diversity. The project started in July 2012 and will end in December 2014.
